Buying organic can definitely be expensive. However, common farming practices lend to the use of harmful pesticides, which are known to cause certain cancers, ADHD, autism, Parkinson’s, digestive issues, a weakened immune system, etc. Luckily, not all crops have the same exposure to pesticides. The "dirty dozen" (those that should always be bought organic) include blueberries, strawberries, grapes, cherries, peaches, nectarines, apples, tomatoes, bell peppers, celery, cucumber, and spinach. On the other hand, the "Clean 15" are generally safe to buy conventional. These include sweet corn, avocados, pineapples, cabbage, onions, frozen sweet peas, papayas, asparagus, mangos, eggplant, honeydew, kiwi, cantaloupe, cauliflower, and grapefruit. Hopefully these lists help keep you healthy, while saving a little money where you can!
